‘He Won’t Be Able To Stand’ – Ex-CSK Batter Issues Warning To MS Dhoni Ahead of IPL 2024

Robin Uthappa also shed light on the factors that could eventually lead Dhoni to step away from the game.

Chennai Super Kings‘ captain, MS Dhoni, will spearhead his team’s campaign in the IPL 2024, which is slated to commence on March 22.

The defending champions, CSK, will kick off their title defence against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

There’s a buzz surrounding Dhoni possibly playing his last IPL season in 2024. After speculation about retirement last year, the CSK captain confirmed his continuation for another season following the team’s triumph in the Final.

While the familiar speculation resurfaces, Robin Uthappa, Dhoni’s former CSK teammate, offers a different perspective. Uthappa believes that CSK would retain Dhoni, regardless of his physical condition, even if he were “on a wheelchair.”

“CSK would let him play even if he was on a wheelchair! Get off from the wheelchair, bat, and then go back,” Uthappa said on JioCinema.

‘I Don’t Think Batting Is Issue for Him’ – Robin Uthappa

Uthappa further stated that Dhoni’s batting prowess remains intact. Despite being primarily utilized as a finisher at CSK, the 41-year-old has excelled in that role. Uthappa suggests that it’s Dhoni’s wicketkeeping that might suffer due to his aging knees.

“But I don’t think the batting is the issue for him, I don’t think batting will ever be an issue for him. I think it’s the wicketkeeping. The knees are getting worn out and he loves keeping. So, because he won’t be able to stand there and add value, he’ll probably move on from the game more than for any other reason,” he added.

The question remains whether this IPL season will mark Dhoni’s swansong, and if so, the CSK ‘Thala’ will undoubtedly strive to conclude his journey on a high note.
