Dean Elgar Named Captain for His Farewell Test Match at Cape Town as Temba Bavuma Ruled Out
Dean Elgar will be leading South Africa in the second test match at Cape Town against India.
Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the second Test against India, scheduled to be played from January 3 in Cape Town. Dean Elgar has been appointed as the captain in his absence and will lead the team in the second Test.
Temba Bavuma sustained a hamstring injury during the first Test’s opening day at Centurion while attempting to stop a drive from Virat Kohli. He left the field immediately and did not make a return.
With Temba Bavuma unavailable, Dean Elgar assumed captaincy, overlooking Aiden Markram, the appointed vice-captain. Notably, Elgar’s outstanding performance of scoring 185 runs at his home ground, Centurion, led South Africa to victory over India by an innings and 32 runs.
This series marks Dean Elgar’s farewell, having previously announced his retirement after the two-match test series. Serving as captain in his final series adds a poignant touch, with the concluding test match being his last appearance for the national team.
