Cummins, Hazlewood, Starc Return as Australia Announce Squad for WTC Final vs South Africa

Australia name full-strength squad for WTC Final vs South Africa at Lord’s, aiming for second straight Test title

Australia have announced a 15-member squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against South Africa, which begins on June 11 at Lord’s. Pat Cummins returns to lead the side after missing the Sri Lanka tour due to injury.

The squad includes most of Australia’s top players, with selectors keen to finish this WTC cycle on a high. The team registered big wins during the campaign, including series victories over India and Sri Lanka. Now, they aim to become the first team to win two WTC titles, having defeated India in the last final.

The pace attack looks strong with Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Scott Boland all fit and ready. Boland’s record in English conditions makes him a major asset, especially with his accuracy and control. Nathan Lyon remains the main spinner, and Matt Kuhnemann joins him as a left-arm option.

Cameron Green’s return adds good balance to the side. He gives the team a fourth pace option and adds depth to the batting line-up in the middle order. Australia will again rely on the experienced top order of Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Usman Khawaja, and Travis Head. All of them have been among the runs in recent games.

Alex Carey keeps his spot behind the stumps, with Josh Inglis named as the backup wicketkeeper.

One surprise pick is teenager Sam Konstas. While unlikely to play in the final, his selection shows Australia’s focus on preparing young talent for the future. All-rounder Beau Webster is also part of the squad, offering more flexibility. Fast bowler Brendan Doggett has been named as the travelling reserve.

After the WTC Final, Australia are scheduled to play a three-Test series in the Caribbean. The selectors have said the squad may still change before the final, but as of now, it’s close to full strength.
