CSK Youngster Dewald Brevis Breaks Another T20I Record vs Australia in Cairns
Dewald Brevis hit a 22-ball fifty vs Australia in Cairns, breaking his own T20I record and stunning fans with back-to-back feats
Dewald Brevis is quickly becoming South Africa’s new batting star. The 22-year-old hit the fastest T20I fifty for his country, reaching the mark in just 22 balls against Australia in the third T20I at Cazaly’s Stadium, Cairns.
Only a few days earlier in Darwin, Brevis had set the same record with a 25-ball fifty. That effort broke JP Duminy’s long-standing mark of 31 balls from 2009. But Brevis went one better in Cairns, rewriting his own record almost instantly.
The young right-hander was in complete control. He hammered Aaron Hardie for four sixes in a row to speed to his half-century. Brevis finally fell to Nathan Ellis for 53 off 26 balls in the 12th over, but not before leaving his stamp on the match.
His innings also gave him another record. Brevis now holds the fastest fifty against Australia in Australia, beating Ravi Bopara’s 23-ball effort in Hobart back in 2014.
This series has truly belonged to him. In the second T20I, Brevis blasted an unbeaten 125 off just 56 balls. That knock was the second-fastest T20I hundred by a South African, only behind David Miller’s 35-ball special in 2017.
Brevis is already living up to his nickname “Baby AB”. With back-to-back record-breaking knocks, he has shown that South Africa might have found their next big match-winner.
