Champak the Robot Dog to be Banned? BCCI Receives Legal Notice
IPL’s robot dog Champak has landed in legal trouble after the publishers of the famous comic Champak filed a case against BCCI over the name.

The Indian Premier League’s famous robot dog, Champak, has suddenly found itself in big legal trouble. The Delhi High Court has sent a notice to the BCCI after Delhi Press Patra Prakashan Private Limited, the publisher of the well-known children’s comic Champak, filed a trademark case against them.
This robot dog was launched by the IPL this season to make matches more fun and exciting. It was developed by global tech company wTVision in partnership with Omnicam and the BCCI.
Fans first saw Champak in action during the Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium earlier this April. With its playful acts and cool tech features, it became an instant hit with both fans and players.
The robot can shake hands, jump, and even make heart signs, interacting live with cricketers, umpires, and the crowd. From MS Dhoni to Hardik Pandya, many big stars have already had fun moments with this mechanical pup. It even carries the toss coin sometimes, like it did during the Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match.
Interestingly, when the robot first appeared, it didn’t have a name. So, the IPL held an online poll where fans voted, and Champak emerged as the winner. The announcement created a wave of nostalgia and laughter across social media, with memes and jokes flooding in.
Apart from its fun side, Champak comes with advanced technology. It can walk, run, stand on two legs, and is fitted with a high-definition camera that gives fans unique behind-the-scenes views. Former New Zealand cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison even called it his “new broadcast companion” during its introduction video.
But while the IPL community has loved Champak, the publishers of the original Champak magazine are not happy. They claim that using the name without permission is a violation of their trademark rights. The Delhi High Court has now officially asked the BCCI to explain its side in this matter.
So, even as Champak the robot dog enjoys fame on the cricket field, off the field, it is now caught in a legal fight that could decide its future name.
