Brian Lara Seeks Support from Gayle, Pollard and Bravo to Rebuild West Indies Cricket
Brian Lara urges CWI to involve Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard to help revive struggling West Indies cricket.
West Indies cricket, once the most feared force in the game, continues to struggle after losing both the Test and T20I series to Australia. Legendary batter Brian Lara has now urged Cricket West Indies (CWI) to bring in modern greats Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo and Kieron Pollard to help guide the next generation.
Speaking at the end of a CWI conference, Lara said he felt a deep sense of responsibility in helping West Indies recover. “It’s an honour to be asked to contribute to the future of West Indies cricket, especially at such a crucial time. I fully embrace the opportunity to serve,” he said.
In a post on Instagram, Lara stressed that the team’s decline was not just about poor results.
“We must recognise that the challenges confronting West Indies cricket extend far beyond inconsistent performances on the field. They are deeply rooted in cultural, psychological, and structural shifts that have evolved over the past two decades.”
Lara believes Gayle, Bravo and Pollard have the right mix of experience and modern insight to connect with today’s players.
“These men have not only played at the highest level, but have done so in an era that reflects the modern athlete’s psyche, ambitions, and motivations. Their proximity to today’s players — in terms of generational alignment and shared dressing rooms — gives them an authentic understanding of what drives, distracts, or disillusions the modern West Indian cricketers,” he explained.
The former captain urged the board to move quickly. “The time to act is now, but we must act together,” Lara said, calling for collective effort to revive West Indies cricket.
