BCCI Starts Search for New Head Coach of Team India
ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be the last assignment of Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach.
Jay Shah, the BCCI secretary, revealed that the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be Rahul Dravid’s final stint as the head coach of Team India. They will soon release the advertisement for a new head coach.
Additionally, there are reports indicating that the BCCI is not considering the idea of having separate coaches for different formats, and they are seeking someone who can lead the team until the 2027 ODI World Cup, to be hosted by South Africa.
“That decision [Separate Coaches] will also be made by the CAC. There are many all-format players, like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Rishabh Pant, among others. Moreover, there is no precedent for such a situation in India.”
Rahul Dravid took over the role of the head coach of Team India after the T20 World Cup 2021. Under his coaching, Team India won the Asia Cup 2023, while also reaching the final of the WTC Championship twice, the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2022, and the final of the ODI World Cup 2023.
“Rahul’s tenure is only up to June. So if he wants to apply, he is free to do so,” the BCCI secretary told Cricbuzz and also refused to rule out the possibility of hiring a foreign coach.
The selection of support staff, including batting, bowling, and fielding coaches, will be finalized following the appointment of the head coach. This ensures that the chosen coaches complement the head coach’s overall strategy and vision for the team.
