BCCI Plans to Get Mohsin Naqvi Kicked Out of ACC After Asia Cup Trophy Row
The BCCI plans to move the ICC to sanction ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi after the Asia Cup 2025 trophy controversy, accusing him of withholding India’s title silverware and breaching protocol.
The Asia Cup 2025 controversy refuses to settle. Despite India’s title win over Pakistan in the final, tensions continue to rise as the BCCI plans to take strong action against Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi.
According to a PTI report, the BCCI is preparing to raise the issue at the International Cricket Council (ICC), seeking Naqvi’s censure and possible removal from the ICC Board of Directors.
This move comes after Naqvi allegedly refused to hand over the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian team, even instructing officials not to move the silverware from the ACC headquarters without his consent.
Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that the Asia Cup trophy was not Naqvi’s personal property and demanded that it be handed over to India immediately.
The Asia Cup final, held on September 28, ended with India’s emphatic win over Pakistan, powered by Suryakumar Yadav.
However, the post-match ceremony turned chaotic when India refused to receive the trophy directly from Naqvi, who is also Pakistan’s Interior Minister. The presentation was delayed by nearly an hour before being abruptly called off.
Throughout the tournament, tensions between India and Pakistan were high, especially after the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor. Heated on-field exchanges, including one between Haris Rauf and Shubman Gill, added to the charged atmosphere.
Naqvi’s political remarks during the event also drew criticism. In the ACC meeting that followed, he clashed with BCCI officials Rajeev Shukla and Ashish Shelar and initially refused to congratulate India. Reports suggest he later agreed under pressure but still declined to discuss the trophy issue.
