BBL 2024-25 Match 36: Brisbane Heat vs Hobart Hurricanes – Match Highlights and Scorecard

Hobart Hurricanes beat Brisbane Heat by 5 wickets in the 36th match of the BBL 2024-25.

Hobart Hurricanes triumphed over Brisbane Heat in a dramatic finish, chasing down 201 with one ball to spare to secure a five-wicket victory at The Gabba. In a thrilling contest, the Hurricanes displayed remarkable resilience, with Matthew Wade’s stunning last-ball six sealing the win for the visitors.

Brisbane Heat posted a competitive total of 201/6, with Marnus Labuschagne leading the charge on his Big Bash return. Labuschagne played a blistering knock of 77 off 44 balls, including eight boundaries and two sixes. His innings gave Heat the much-needed stability in the middle overs after early wickets fell. Renshaw (40 off 25 balls) also contributed to the total, but a bizarre run-out sent him back to the pavilion.

Khawaja (23) and Alsop (39) also chipped in with useful contributions, but the Heat couldn’t accelerate as they would have liked towards the end. The team ended their innings at a run rate of 10.05, but the Hurricanes’ bowlers kept things tight, with Nathan Ellis and Marcus Bean picking up key wickets.

Hobart Hurricanes began the chase with an explosive partnership between Caleb Jewell (76 off 49 balls) and Mitchell Owen (44 off 20 balls). The duo laid a solid foundation, with Jewell finding gaps all around the ground and Owen playing a quick cameo. However, the Heat fought back in the middle overs, with Spencer Johnson (3/26) and Xavier Bartlett (1/42) picking up wickets at crucial moments.

Despite the breakthroughs, the Hurricanes continued to stay in the hunt, thanks to handy contributions from Nikhil Chaudhary (39) and Tim David (11). The match came down to the final over, with the Hurricanes needing 6 runs off the last ball.

With the match on the line, Xavier Bartlett stepped up to bowl the final delivery. Aimed at the yorker, Bartlett missed his mark, delivering a low full toss on the stumps at 136 kmph. Matthew Wade, in perfect form, got under the ball and swept it with power, sending it soaring over square leg for a massive six to win the match.
