BBL 2022-23: Jimmy Neesham joins Hobart Hurricanes as an overseas replacement player

Jimmy Neesham will join Hobart Hurricanes as an overseas replacement player.

New Zealand’s all-rounder Jimmy Neesham has been roped in by Hobart Hurricanes for the upcoming season of Big Bash League as an overseas replacement player.

This will be the first time the Kiwi all-rounder will feature in Australia’s premier T20 league. Neesham dropped off a central contract from New Zealand Cricket in September to fulfill his commitments with global domestic leagues.

Expressing delight at taking up a new challenge in Australia, here’s what Neesham said:

“I am excited to be involved with the Big Bash for the first time this year. I have heard great things about the Hurricanes setup, and the list this year looks incredibly strong, so to be able to play even a small part in what I hope will be a successful tournament for the franchise is a really great opportunity for me.

“A lot of people say Tasmania is a bit like a mini New Zealand, so I am looking forward to getting over there, meeting the guys, and playing the role that is asked of me for the team.”

Hobart Hurricanes, who are yet to win the BBL title have players like D’arcy Short, Matthew Wade, Tim David, Nathan Ellis, etc in the ranks this year and the addition of James Neesham will further make this side a lot stronger.

Neesham has represented New Zealand in 60 T20I, where he accumulated 688 runs at a strike rate of 159.62, as well as has picked up 25 wickets at an average of 30.12. Overall, he has played 217 T20s thus far, scoring 2934 runs and churning out 174 wickets.
