In what comes as a huge blow for Bangladesh, their star opening batter, Liton Das, has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2023. Anamul Haque Bijoy will be replacing him in the Bangladesh squad for the continental tournament.

Notably, Liton fell ill and hence failed to accompany the Bangladesh squad to Sri Lanka last Sunday for the continental championship. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) kept an eye on the wicketkeeper-batter’s condition for a few days, hoping he would make a recovery in time but now he has been ruled out for the whole event.

Anamul, who was training in Chattogram under the Bangladesh Tigers programme, will now join the team in Sri Lanka. BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin opened up on the development, stating the reason behind picking Anamul Haque as a replacement for Liton Das.

“He [Anamul] has been in the runs in domestic cricket and we have continued to monitor him in the Bangladesh Tigers programme. He was always in our consideration. Due to Liton’s unavailability, we needed a top-order batter who could keep wicket and Anamul got the nod,” Minhajul was quoted as saying in the press release.
