Babar Azam Scores Maiden Fifty on Indian Soil Ahead of World Cup 2023

Babar Azam scored a half-century against New Zealand in Hyderabad.

Babar Azam, the captain of Pakistan, scored a half-century in the warmup match against New Zealand at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday, September 29. He came in to bat following Imam-ul-Haq’s early dismissal and formed a strong 114-run partnership with Mohammed Rizwan for the third wicket.

This marked Babar Azam’s inaugural appearance on Indian soil, as the current Pakistan team, with the exception of Mohammad Nawaz, had never played in India before. Following a lacklustre performance in the 2023 Asia Cup, this half-century against New Zealand likely provided a much-needed confidence boost to Babar Azam.

Following this, the Pakistan team is scheduled to play another warm-up match against Australia on October 3, at the same venue, before commencing their World Cup 2023 campaign against the Netherlands on October 6 at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The highly awaited India versus Pakistan clash is slated for October 14 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
