Asia Cup Match Refree Andy Pycroft Apologies to Pakistan Cricket Team
PCB confirms ICC match referee Andy Pycroft apologised to Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha over the Asia Cup handshake incident.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that ICC match referee Andy Pycroft has apologised to Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha and team manager over the September 14 incident in Dubai.
Earlier, the PCB had urged the ICC to take strict action against Pycroft and remove him from the tournament. The ICC, however, did not accept their request.
Pakistan then submitted a second demand, asking that Pycroft be barred from officiating in Pakistan’s matches, but this plea was also rejected.
The situation escalated to the point where Pakistan threatened to pull out of their crucial match against the UAE. Players were initially instructed to remain in the hotel, causing a delay of nearly an hour before the match eventually went ahead.
In a statement, the PCB said, “The ICC’s match referee, Andy Pycroft, has apologised to the manager and captain of the Pakistan cricket team.”
Pycroft reportedly described the incident as a result of miscommunication and extended his apologies.
