Another Blow for LSG! Mayank Yadav Ruled Out of IPL 2025, Kiwi Pacer Joins Squad
Lucknow Super Giants have signed New Zealand pacer Will O'Rourke as a replacement for injured Mayank Yadav in IPL 2025.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have suffered a big blow ahead of the final phase of IPL 2025. Their young pace sensation Mayank Yadav has been ruled out of the tournament due to a recurring back injury. The franchise has named New Zealand fast bowler Will O’Rourke as his replacement for the remaining matches.
The update was confirmed by the IPL on Thursday, May 15. According to the statement, O’Rourke will join the team for the rest of the league stage and, if they qualify, for the play-offs. He has been signed for ₹3 crore.
“Lucknow Super Giants have roped in New Zealand pacer William O’Rourke as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav. Yadav sustained a back injury and is ruled out for the remainder of the season,” the IPL said.
Mayank Yadav’s Injury Woes Continue
This is another setback for Mayank, who had only recently returned from a long injury layoff. The 22-year-old played just two matches this season, against Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans, and picked up two wickets.
However, he seemed to be struggling with his rhythm and pace, rarely touching the 150 kmph mark that once made him one of the fastest Indian bowlers in IPL history.
Last season, he bowled the fastest delivery by an Indian in the IPL clocking 156.7 kmph. But after making his India debut in late 2024, Mayank missed the entire domestic season due to back issues.
He is now back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for rehab. Speaking earlier this month, Mayank admitted that his pace would take time to return as he recovers from his injury.
“The body will adapt and take its own time. I’ll have to give my body and my bowling some time to get those speeds back. There have been no changes in my bowling technique,” he said.
LSG Still in Playoffs Race
Despite injury concerns, LSG are still in the hunt for a playoff spot. With 10 points from 11 games, they are currently in mid-table. Their next game is scheduled for Monday, May 19, against SunRisers Hyderabad in Lucknow.
Will O’Rourke’s inclusion will give the side an extra fast-bowling option as they look to finish strong in the tournament.
