Abu Dhabi Set to Host IPL 2026 Auction in December, Says Report
IPL 2026 mini-auction set for December 15-16 in Abu Dhabi; CSK-RR discuss major Jadeja–Samson trade.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction will take place in Abu Dhabi, likely between December 15 and 16, marking the third consecutive year the event is hosted outside India.
After Dubai in 2023 and Jeddah in 2024, the IPL is now heading to Abu Dhabi, which was chosen for its world-class infrastructure, proximity to India, and smooth logistics. The BCCI and IPL Governing Council finalized Abu Dhabi after initial discussions about Mumbai and Bengaluru.
This year’s auction will be a mini-auction, meaning teams can make only limited adjustments to their squads. The retention deadline for all ten franchises is November 15, after which the player list for the auction will be finalized.
A senior IPL official said, “Abu Dhabi provides a perfect mix of accessibility and facilities. The response from teams has been positive, and the logistics work better than ever.”
The decision continues the trend of taking IPL events to Gulf countries, strengthening the league’s global reach and tapping into the growing fan base in the region.
Meanwhile, trade talks are heating up ahead of the auction. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) are reportedly in discussions over a potential Ravindra Jadeja–Sanju Samson swap. CSK prefers a straight trade, while RR may push for an additional player as part of the deal.
If the trade goes through, it could be one of the most high-profile moves before IPL 2026. Both Jadeja and Samson are central to their respective teams, and any change could alter strategies significantly ahead of the next season.
Official confirmation from the IPL Governing Council on both the auction schedule and the rumored trade is awaited. Fans and franchises alike will be keeping a close eye on developments in the coming weeks.
