AB de Villiers Proposes New Batting Spot for Virat Kohli in 2023 Asia Cup

Former South African cricketer AB de Villiers stated that Virat Kohli seems to be the ideal candidate to hold the number four batting position for Team India in the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, thanks to his ability to fulfil both the roles of a power hitter and a stabilising anchor within the team.

Notably, Kohli has scored 1767 runs in 39 matches while batting at the number 4 spot in ODIs. Speaking on his Youtube channel, here’s what the legendary South African batter said:

“I would be a big supporter of that. I feel Virat is the perfect No. 4, can keep the innings together and play any kind of role in the middle order.”

De Villiers, who spent a good amount of time with Virat Kohli during his stint with Royal Challengers Bangalore further went on to say that he is not sure whether Kohli would like to bat at number 4 while pointing out Kohli’s readiness to step into that role if it serves the team’s interests.

“I don’t know whether he would like to do that role. But at the end of the day, if the team needs you to do something and play a role, you gotta put your hand up and go for it,” De Villiers added.

AB de Villiers Predicts Asia Cup 2023 Winner

The Proteas batter further said that India and Pakistan are the two favourites to win the Asia Cup 2023 title. Notably, India is the most successful team in the history of the continental tournament, having won the Asia Cup title seven times.

“Pakistan and India are the favourites to win the Asia Cup. However, Sri Lanka have the ability to upset the bigger teams,” said De Villiers.

Team India will kick off its Asia Cup, 2023 campaign against the arch-rival Pakistan on September 02 at Pallekele stadium, Sri Lanka.
