42-Year-Old James Anderson Joins The Hundred, Andrew Flintoff’s Son Also Set To Make His Debut
James Anderson and Rocky Flintoff bag wildcard deals in The Hundred 2025 ahead of season opener on August 5.
The Hundred 2025 just got a lot more exciting with two big names, one a legend, and the other a rising star.
England’s Test great James Anderson has earned his first-ever contract in the 100-ball format, while 17-year-old Rocky Flintoff, son of former England captain Andrew Flintoff, has been drafted into the Northern Superchargers, coached by his father.
Anderson, who recently announced retirement from Test cricket, has now signed with Manchester Originals as a wildcard pick.
The 42-year-old pacer, known for his record 700 Test wickets, played in the Vitality Blast earlier this year for Lancashire, where he picked 14 wickets in eight games.
His performances impressed enough for a late call-up in The Hundred, marking a new chapter in his storied career.
Rocky Flintoff, meanwhile, has been making headlines in youth cricket. The teenage batter scored a century against India Under-19s in a Youth ODI and followed it with a gritty 93 in the Youth Test.
He now joins his father’s franchise in The Hundred, earning a £31,000 deal, the same amount as Anderson.
While some are calling it a ‘father picks son’ moment, Rocky’s form justifies the decision. His technique, temperament, and scoring ability have already drawn comparisons to some of England’s finest young batters.
All men’s wildcard picks in The Hundred 2025 have been signed for the same salary. On the women’s side, 16 players were picked for £10,000 each.
The Hundred kicks off on August 5, with London Spirit facing Oval Invincibles in a double-header at Lord’s. Both James Anderson and Rocky Flintoff will be closely watched, one for how long he can keep going, the other for how far he can go.
