Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally ended their title drought by winning the IPL 2025, and one player who played a pivotal role in that historic triumph is now all set for a possible comeback to the Indian team.
According to a News18report, star all-rounder Krunal Pandya is likely to be included in India’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025.
Krunal was the standout performer in the IPL final. With Punjab Kings batters going all guns blazing, the experienced left-arm spinner held his nerve and delivered a match-defining spell, 4 overs for just 17 runs and 2 crucial wickets.
His performance helped RCB clinch their maiden IPL title and earned him the Player of the Match award.
Now, as India begins to shift focus towards the Asia Cup, set to begin on September 9 in the UAE, Krunal’s name has come into serious consideration.
The tournament will be played in the T20 format this time, keeping in mind preparations for the T20 World Cup next year.
India are the defending champions of the Asia Cup and will be looking to retain their crown. The squad is expected to be announced in the third week of August, and there are likely to be a few notable returns, especially players who were rested due to their involvement in the Test format over the past few months.
Krunal Pandya set for a possible return after 4 years
If selected, this will be Krunal’s first appearance in Indian colours since July 2021, when he played his last T20I against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Since then, he has been out of the national setup but has remained active in domestic cricket and the IPL.
So far, Krunal Pandya has represented India in 19 T20Is, scoring 124 runs and taking 15 wickets. In ODIs, he has played five matches, scoring 130 runs and picking up 2 wickets.
Given the conditions in the UAE and India’s need for a reliable spin all-rounder, Krunal’s inclusion could prove to be a smart tactical move. His experience, control in the middle overs, and ability to chip in with the bat make him a strong contender for a spot in the squad.
