In what comes as a big blow for Australia ahead of ICC World Cup 2023, their star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the South Africa white-ball series due to an ankle injury.
This comes as a major blow for Australia, especially considering the ICC prestigious event is scheduled to be played in October-November this year. Notably, Glenn Maxwell also missed the T20 World Cup 2022 for Australia after he broke his leg in a freak injury.
“Following scans, and on medical advice, it was determined to take a conservative approach. As a result, Maxwell has been ruled out of the three-match T20 series,” the team said in a news release.
Selector Tony Dodemaide mentioned that Maxwell’s injury will be under observation leading up to the three one-day internationals scheduled in India next month. These will be Australia’s final matches before the 50-overs World Cup in the same nation.
Who Will Replace Glenn Maxwell?

Australia’s experienced wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade has replaced injured all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in the Australia squad for the limited-overs series of South Africa.
Australia will play South Africa in five ODIs following the T20I series. Notably, Wade helped Australia to win the T20 World Cup in 2021 and has also looked in great ever since.
