In what can be a big blow for Australia ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, their opener Travis Head’s participation in next month’s prestigious event is in doubt after he broke his hand during 4th ODI match against South Africa at Centurion.
After getting struck on the hand by the Proteas pace sensation Gerald Coetzee during Australia’s 164-run defeat to South Africa at Centurion, Head had to retire hurt. Australia coach Andrew McDonald later confirmed the fracture and said that they will assess the nature of the injury and the healing time frame.
“It’s a confirmed fracture but as to the nature of the break and what sort of timeframe to heal, that will be assessed tomorrow,” said Australia coach Andrew McDonald.

“He’s going to go in for some more scans tomorrow… We have fingers crossed, clearly with the World Cup, fast approaching,” McDonald added.
Travis Head has been a rock at the top of Australia’s one-day batting lineup alongside David Warner. If he is sidelined for the upcoming World Cup starting on October 5 in India, that’s a major setback for Australia, who are already without some of their key players.
