Anrich Nortje Registers Best Bowling Figures for South Africa in T20 World Cup, Sri Lanka Bowled Out for 76

Anrich Nortje picked up four wickets while conceding just 7 runs in his four over spell against Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup 2024.

Anrich Nortje etched his name in South African cricket history today, registering the best bowling figures by a Proteas bowler in a T20 World Cup match. His phenomenal spell of 4/7 in four overs ripped through the Sri Lankan batting lineup, dismantling them for a paltry 76 runs.

Nortje’s fiery pace proved too much to handle for the Sri Lankan batters. He struck early, dismissing Kusal Mendis and Kamindu Mendis. Later, he returned to clean up the middle order, sending back Charith Asalanka and the experienced Angelo Matthews.

Nassau County Cricket Stadium – A Graveyard for Batters

Sri Lanka, who won the toss and opted to bat first, were left rueing their decision. The Nassau County Cricket Stadium pitch in New York has proven to be a graveyard for batters throughout the tournament. With minimal assistance for stroke-makers and a sluggish outfield, scoring runs has been an uphill battle.

Anrich Nortje wasn’t the only bowler to shine for South Africa. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj bagged two wickets apiece, while Ottniel Baartman chipped in with one. South Africa will be looking to chase down this modest target comfortably and secure a crucial victory in their T20 World Cup campaign.
