The rise reflects Afghanistan’s growing strength in international cricket. They have won seven of their last 10 ODIs, showing that they can compete with some of the world’s top teams.

Afghanistan started their recent run with a dominant 4-0 victory over Ireland in an away ODI series in August. They then continued their good form in the UAE tri-series, featuring Zimbabwe and Bangladesh, without losing a match.

Afghanistan went on to win the tri-series title by defeating Zimbabwe by seven wickets in the final in Sharjah. Their bowlers also played a key role during the tournament, restricting Bangladesh to just 160 runs before chasing down the target in 35.3 overs.

Star spinner Rashid Khan was one of Afghanistan’s standout performers in the tri-series. He claimed 11 wickets to win the Player of the Series award, helping his team maintain their unbeaten run.

Afghanistan’s Rise in ODI Cricket

Afghanistan’s progress has been steady over the past year. Their consistent performances have helped them move past several established teams, including Bangladesh, England, West Indies and now Sri Lanka, in the ODI rankings.

The team have also built a solid record in the format, winning 96 of their 191 ODIs. Their win-loss ratio of 1.09 reflects their growing ability to compete against strong international sides.

India remain at the top of the ICC men’s ODI rankings, followed by New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan and Australia. Afghanistan now occupy sixth place, marking a new high for the team.

Their rise is another sign of how far Afghan cricket has come in a relatively short time. With experienced players like Rashid Khan leading the way, Afghanistan will look to build on this achievement and challenge the top-ranked teams in future ODI competitions.
