Shaheen Afridi Sacked as Babar Azam Set to Reclaim All-Format Captaincy for Pakistan
Babar Azam is all set to reclaim the all-format captaincy of the Pakistan cricket team.
In a significant development, Babar Azam is set to resume captaincy across all formats for the Pakistan cricket team. The Pakistan Cricket Board is expected to formally announce this decision shortly.
This move comes after a recent PCB meeting concluded that Shaheen Shah Afridi isn’t the most suitable candidate to helm the Pakistan cricket team.
The board has also expressed its preference for a single captain across all formats, reverting to the pre-World Cup 2023 arrangement.
Babar Azam relinquished the captaincy of all formats following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup held in India.
Later, Shaheen Shah Afridi was named T20I captain, while Shan Masood assumed the role of test captain.
Reasoning Behind Shaheen Afridi’s Sacking?
The decision to remove Shaheen Shah Afridi from captaincy may also be influenced by his team, Lahore Qalandars’ lacklustre performance in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024, where they finished at the bottom of the points table with just one victory.
The current state of Pakistani cricket is intriguing, marked by frequent changes in leadership and squads, yet plagued by inconsistency, ensuring continued media attention.
