IPL 2024: Not MS Dhoni, Kevin Pietersen Names ‘This’ Player as Greatest Finisher
Kevin Pietersen believes that Virat Kohli will end his career as the greatest finisher.
Ex-England cricketer Kevin Pietersen lauded Virat Kohli‘s exceptional batting display against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Kohli, the seasoned campaigner, hammered 77 runs off just 49 deliveries, including 11 boundaries and 2 maximums, steering his team to victory by 4 wickets.
Kohli’s innings provided the much-needed momentum in the chase of 177 runs, with Dinesh Karthik (28 runs off 10 balls) and Mahipal Lomror (17 off 8 balls) sealing the deal with their late fireworks.
RCB’s innings got off to a shaky start as both Faf du Plessis (3) and Cameron Green (3) departed early. Just as Rajat Patidar showed signs of regaining form, Harpreet Brar dismissed him.
Glenn Maxwell could score only 3 runs before Brar dismissed him. It was then that Kohli stepped up, playing assertive shots to steady the nerves.
Pietersen, who was in the awe of the Kohli’s strokeplay, said:
“Whenever he decides to retire, he will be remembered as the greatest finisher of the game. He loves to do this and enjoys winning games for his team. He has been doing this for years and shows remarkable consistency while chasing totals for his team. He doesn’t get impacted by pressure but thrives in such situations.”
Kohli was awarded the Player of the Match title and claimed the Orange Cap for topping the runs chart after just two games in the season.
