FIR Registered Against Yuvraj Singh in Haryana Over ‘Casteist Remark’ During Live Chat With Rohit Sharma in 2020

An FIR has been registered in Haryana against former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh over his 'casteist remark' during an Instagram live chat from 2020.

An FIR has been registered against the former Indian all-rounder, Yuvraj Singh, for making ‘casteist remark’ during an Instagram Live with Rohit Sharma in 2020. The comment was deemed to be in bad taste for the Dalit community and it didn’t go down well with the netizens by any means.

The complaint has been lodged by an advocate from the Hisar Division of Haryana for Yuvraj’s comments. If reports are to be believed, the Haryana police have registered an FIR on the case almost eight months after Yuvraj had spoken on the Instagram Live.

According to the reports of India Today, the Hansi police in Hisar have filed a case under Sections 153, 153A, 295, 505 of IPC, besides sections 3 (1) (r) and 3 (1) (s) of the SC/ST Act.

During the Instagram live, Yuvraj had used the word ‘b***gi’ when talking about Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Yuvraj was, thereafter, a recipient of severe criticism.

“Yeh b***gi log ko kaam nahi hai yeh Yuzi aur isko (Kuldeep),” Yuvraj had said.

“Yuzi ko dekha kya video daala hai apni family ke saath. Maine usko wahi bola ki apne baap ko nacha raha hai, pagal toh nahi hai tu,” Rohit replied.

Yuvraj Singh Issued an Apology

After facing the heat on social media for his ‘disrespectful’ comments, Yuvraj had apologised and said he has never believed in disparity.

Yuvraj Singh had taken to Twitter and apologised for “unintentionally hurting sentiments” of a particular society of people.

“This is to clarify I have never believed in any kind of disparity, be it on the basis of caste, colour, creed or gender. I have given and continue to spend my life for the welfare of people. I believe in the dignity of life and respect each individual without exception,” Yuvraj Singh said in his post.

“I understand that while I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood, which was unwarranted. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody’s sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same.”
