BBL 2020-21: Mitchell Marsh Fined $5,000 For Lashing Out At Umpire After Wrongly Given Out
BBL: After being given out, Marsh looked visibly angry and frustrated and slammed his bat on the crease. He then screamed at the umpire before walking off.
BBL 202-21: Cricket is a game which demands passion, enthusiasm and determination. There have been many instances when things got curled up in the heat of the moment. The players are so determined to win the game for their sides that they sometimes cross the line. One such instance caught in the cameras during Qualifier match between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers in the ongoing Big Bash League, where Mitchell Marsh was visibly seen to be frustrated and gutted with the umpire’s decision.
The incident took place in the 13th over of Scorcher’s innings when Marsh was deemed caught behind out in Sixers’ Steve O’ Keefe’s over. The replays showed that the ball had not touched Marsh’s bat as it went in wicketkeeper Joshua Philippe’s hands.

Mitchell Marsh has been fined $5,000 but has escaped suspension, meaning he is free to play in Thursday night’s BBL Knockout Final.
“Perth Scorchers player Mitchell Marsh has been charged with a Level 2 offence under the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct following his side’s KFC BBL Finals match against the Sydney Sixers on January 30,” Cricket Australia said in a statement on Sunday.
“Marsh was charged by match referee Bob Stratford under Article 2.8 of the Code of Conduct for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during a match,” it added.
Marsh Accepted The charge & Proposed Sanction of $5,000.
Marsh later came out and accepted the charge and the fine that was levied on him. The Perth Scorchers’ player also stated that his reaction was unacceptable, and it was not the ideal example to set to a youngster watching the game. He further added that he has complete respect for the umpires and their job and concluded by stating that he will learn from this mistake.
“I accept the fine handed down to me, my reaction to the umpire’s decision was unacceptable and not the example I want to be setting for any young cricketer,” Marsh said.
“I have complete respect for the umpires and the job they do. I’ll learn from this and look forward to Thursday night’s match,” he added.
Later, speaking on the same incident on Saturday night, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting said he feared Marsh would be suspended.
“You name another time in the game where you’ve seen a reaction like that for as prolonged as that was from a batsman,” Ponting had said on Channel Seven. “I’m not hoping he does (get suspended) but I reckon he will.
“He will have to pay in some way, shape or form for his reaction to that dismissal. Let’s hope it is not a bad outcome. It will be bad in one way or the other, but his reaction was over the top and not expected from a senior Australian player,” he added.
