PCB To Sack Babar Azam From Test And ODI Captaincy
Babar Azam will continue to lead the T20 side but is likely to lose captaincy in the other two formats.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reportedly considering sacking Babar Azam from the all-format captaincy of the Pakistan national cricket team. The Najam Sethi-headed cricket board might either go forward with split captaincy or take away the captaincy duties entirely from Babar Azam.
It has not been a memorable year for Babar as the captain in the longest format of the game. Earlier, after a white-wash in the three-match Test series against England, Babar Azam became the first Pakistan captain to lose four Test matches on home soil in a calendar year.
Babar Azam to lead Pakistan’s T20I team only
According to sources, Babar Azam is expected to continue leading the team in the shortest format but is likely to lose the leadership responsibilities in the other two formats.
Sarfaraz Ahmed, who recently made a stellar comeback for Pakistan is likely to be bestowed with Test captaincy while Shan Masood, who was recently named vice-captain in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand will be taking up the role of ODI captain.
Mickey Arthur to be re-appointed Pakistan’s head coach
As per reports, the Pakistan cricket board has been in contact with Mickey Arthur and they are set to re-appoint him as the national team head coach. Arthur had previously worked with the Pakistan cricket team from 2016 to 2019. The South African is currently associated with the English county club Derbyshire.
