Mumbai Indians’ Announce South African Legend As New Head Coach
Mumbai Indians appoint South African legend Mark Boucher as their Head Coach for IPL 2023.
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), on Friday confirmed the appointment of former South Africa wicketkeeper-batter Mark Boucher as their new head coach, starting with Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.
Boucher, who is currently serving as the head coach of the South Africa Men’s cricket team will end his stint with the national side after the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
Boucher will replace Mahela Jayawardene at the helm, who has served as head coach of Mumbai Indians since 2017.
Under him, the Mumbai-based franchise have won three IPL titles. The veteran Sri Lanka Jayawardene and the former head coach of MI has been appointed as Global Head of Performance with the franchise expanding its wings by buying teams in the SA20 as well as the ILT20 tournament.
Boucher expressed delight on his appointment as head coach and called MI as one of the most successful sports franchises in world sports,“It is an honor and privilege to be appointed as Head Coach of MI. Their history and achievements as a franchise clearly put them up there as one of the most successful sporting franchises in all of world sport.”
