ENG vs IND: Shardul Thakur Ruled Out Of The Lord’s Test, Confirms Skipper Virat Kohli
India received another injury setback with fast bowler Shardul Thakur all but out of the second Test against England at Lord's due to a hamstring injury.
The Indian pacer, popularly hailed as ‘Lord‘ by fans, Shardul Thakur has been ruled out of the second Test, scheduled to be held at Lord’s, the home of Cricket after sustaining hamstring injury. With this, Thakur has added his name to the list of injured players on England tour, which consist of Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan and Ishant Sharma.
Skipper Virat Kohli confirmed the news in the pre-match press conference. Thakur might have failed with the bat but has been brilliant with the bowl. He picked up four wickets in the first Test in Nottingham – 2/41 and 2/37. However, in the second innings, he bowled the least number of overs among all four pacers, i.e, only 13. Thakur, according to ESPNCricinfo was kept under supervision of physiotherapist Nitin Patel and trainer Nick Webb.
However, if one goes by Virat Kohli’s post match statement, it would be clear that team India will proceed in the remaining series with the same combination, that is four pacers and one spinner. With the aforementioned template, it would be one of either Ishant Sharma or Umesh Yadav who will make the way in the playing XI for Lord’s Test.
Meanwhile, Kohli was also confident that the Mumbai pacer will be fit and fine for the third Test match, which is scheduled to be held in Headingley from August 25.
“Shardul should be okay for the third Test. He has a strain on his left hamstring. Everyone else is fine,” the 32-year-old said while speaking to the reporters.
