Speaking at an event in Bengaluru, the 45-year-old said he would assess his physical condition before December. He has not yet confirmed whether he will return for another season.

“I’ll have to go through the tests. You’ll have to give me the report, and before December, I’ll need to assess how strong I am and whether I can play one more season,” Dhoni said.

The former India captain also spoke about the challenges of keeping his body ready for another demanding IPL season. He compared himself to an old vehicle that needs proper care to keep running.

“If I’m not fit enough, then you’ll have to make sure you do everything right to get this old vintage vehicle running smoothly on the road,” he added.

Dhoni’s IPL Record and CSK Legacy

Dhoni has scored 5,439 runs in the IPL at an average of 38.30 and a strike rate of 137.45. He has been one of the most successful players in the tournament since its first season in 2008.

Apart from his long association with CSK, Dhoni also played for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017. Under his leadership, CSK won five IPL titles, making him one of the most successful captains in the tournament’s history.

During IPL 2025, Dhoni played 14 matches and scored 196 runs at an average of 24.50 and a strike rate of 135.17. His best IPL season came in 2018, when he scored 455 runs in 16 matches at an impressive average of 75.83.

CSK Await Dhoni’s Decision

Questions about Dhoni’s future have remained a major talking point among CSK fans. Reports of his injury-related absence from IPL 2026 have added to the uncertainty surrounding his playing career.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan has also previously avoided giving a clear answer about Dhoni’s availability for the 2027 season.

For now, Dhoni’s return will depend on the results of his fitness tests and medical assessments. CSK and its supporters will have to wait for his final decision before planning for the next season.
