Amit Mishra Returns to Delhi Capitals as Spin Bowling Coach Ahead of IPL 2027
Amit Mishra returns to Delhi Capitals as spin bowling coach for IPL 2027, bringing 174 wickets and a record three IPL hat-tricks.
Amit Mishra has returned to Delhi Capitals (DC) as their spin bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027. The former India leg-spinner brings years of IPL experience to a coaching staff that is going through major changes before the new season.
Mishra began his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils in 2008 and spent 10 seasons with the franchise. His return gives Delhi a coach who understands the team and has plenty of experience in handling spin bowling at the highest level.
The 43-year-old played 162 IPL matches across 16 seasons and took 174 wickets. His best bowling figures were 5/17. He last played in the tournament in 2024.
Mishra also holds a unique IPL record. He is the only player in the tournament’s history to take three hat-tricks, achieving the feat for three different teams. He took his first hat-trick for Delhi Daredevils in 2008, followed by one for Deccan Chargers in 2011 and another for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013.
Delhi Capitals Revamp Coaching Staff
Mishra’s appointment is part of Delhi Capitals’ plans to reshape their coaching setup ahead of IPL 2027. Sourav Ganguly will serve as head coach, while former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh has been appointed assistant coach. Chaminda Vaas will handle the fast-bowling department, with Mishra taking charge of the spinners.
His experience could prove useful for Delhi’s young spin options. Zeeshan Ansari, who joined DC in a trade deal with Sunrisers Hyderabad, could benefit from working with the former leg-spinner. T Natarajan moved to SRH as part of the same deal.
Leg-spinners Vipraj Nigam and Rehan Ahmed could also gain from Mishra’s guidance if Delhi retain them for the upcoming season. His experience in reading batters, controlling the middle overs and picking up wickets could help the franchise get more out of its spin attack.
However, Delhi Capitals have not announced any specific plans for these bowlers or confirmed the retention of Nigam and Ahmed. Mishra’s appointment is confirmed, while the possible benefits for individual players remain to be seen.
With 174 IPL wickets and three hat-tricks to his name, Mishra returns to familiar surroundings in a new role. Delhi will hope his knowledge and experience help build a stronger spin attack for IPL 2027.
