Rajeev Shukla backs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the 2027 ODI World Cup, saying both still have plenty of cricket left.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla believes Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli still have plenty of cricket left in them, as questions continue over their future in India’s ODI team.
Speaking about their chances of playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup, Shukla said the final decision will rest with the selectors. However, he made it clear that he still sees both experienced batters as important options for India.
“Only the selectors will decide that, but I feel Rohit and Kohli still have a lot of cricket left in them,” Shukla said.
Both Rohit and Kohli have already retired from Test and T20I cricket, leaving ODIs as their only remaining international format. Their age has led to regular questions about whether they will remain part of India’s plans until the 2027 World Cup.
Rohit is approaching 40, while Kohli will turn 38. Despite that, Rohit has continued to produce strong performances in ODIs, keeping the debate over his future alive.
There have also been reports of differences involving Rohit, head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. However, senior BCCI officials have continued to back the experienced players amid the speculation.
India also have younger options waiting for a bigger role, with Yashasvi Jaiswal among the names being considered for the long-term ODI setup.
For now, Shukla’s comments suggest that the door remains open for Rohit and Kohli. Their form, fitness and the selectors’ plans will ultimately decide whether the two veterans make it to the 2027 World Cup.
