CSK Unwilling to Trade Ayush Mhatre as Hardik Pandya Talks with MI Continue – Report
CSK are reportedly in talks to sign Hardik Pandya, but refuse to trade Ayush Mhatre as negotiations with MI continue.
Chennai Super Kings are reportedly pushing to sign Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya ahead of the next IPL season, but the two franchises remain apart on the terms of a potential trade. While discussions are said to be ongoing, no official agreement has been confirmed.
According to reports, Mumbai Indians are asking for a big return if they agree to part with Hardik. The franchise reportedly wants promising youngster Ayush Mhatre along with cash as part of the deal.
However, CSK are not willing to let Mhatre leave. The young batter impressed during IPL 2026 and is seen as a key part of the franchise’s future plans. Chennai are keen to keep him while strengthening their squad with one of India’s top all-rounders.
Trade talks continue
“According to a Hindustan Times report, the Mumbai Indians are looking for a high return for their top all-rounder. Their ideal trade includes seasoned batter Shivam Dube and young top-order talent Ayush Mhatre.”
Instead of including Mhatre, CSK have reportedly made a different offer.
“Instead, to complete the deal, CSK are willing to part ways with Shivam Dube and South African dynamic batter Dewald Brevis plus a cash payment of INR 10 crore.”
If completed, the overall value of the proposed deal could reportedly exceed ₹20 crore, making it one of the biggest player trades in IPL history.
Hardik had a quiet IPL 2026 by his standards, scoring 206 runs and picking up four wickets. Even so, his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, along with his leadership experience, keeps him among the league’s most valuable players.
The report adds that Kolkata Knight Riders could also enter the race for Hardik if talks between Chennai and Mumbai do not reach an agreement. For now, though, negotiations remain ongoing, and there is no confirmation that a deal will be completed.
