Fresh Uncertainty Over India’s Bangladesh Tour as BCB Pauses Media Rights Process

India's Bangladesh tour faces fresh uncertainty after BCB paused the media-rights process, with no official decision on the series yet.

Fresh uncertainty has emerged over India’s proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh after the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) paused its media-rights process. The move has raised fresh questions about whether the series will go ahead as planned.

The BCB has not yet released the Expression of Interest (EoI) documents for broadcasters. As a result, broadcasters remain unsure about the status of the six-match series.

A BCB source told Cricbuzz in Dhaka, “We have not issued the EoI documents because there has been a slight change in plans. We are now assessing the market before inviting bids. It is not true that we are withholding the EoI documents because of the India series.”

The original schedule had India touring Bangladesh from August 1 to 13 for three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals. However, the latest developments suggest the tour dates may not have been finalised yet.

Earlier this month, the BCB had floated a tender for the tour’s media rights, which gave the impression that the series was on track. The decision to pause the process has now led to fresh speculation.

Several theories are circulating about the reason behind the delay. Some reports point to uncertainty around the media-rights process, while others suggest the match dates are still being worked out. However, none of these reasons have been officially confirmed.

There is also continued speculation about discussions between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the BCB. Diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh have added to the uncertainty, although neither board has announced any change to the tour.

India’s appointment of Dinesh Trivedi as its ambassador to Bangladesh had recently raised hopes that the series would go ahead despite the political situation. Even so, no official decision has been made on the tour, leaving players, broadcasters and fans waiting for clarity.
