The 7th match of the Women’s Premier League 2026 season was played on January 14 at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, and it delivered drama right till the end.

Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that paid off later in the night.

UP Warriorz posted 154 for 8 in their 20 overs. Skipper Meg Lanning led from the front with a steady 54 off 38 balls, holding the innings together.

Harleen Deol supported her well and scored 47 off 36 balls before being retired out, as UPW looked to push the scoring rate in the final overs.

Delhi’s bowlers kept things tight at the back end. Shafali Verma picked up 2 for 16, while Marizanne Kapp returned figures of 2 for 24 to stop UPW from going big.

Chasing 155, Delhi Capitals got off to a strong start through openers Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma. The pair added 94 runs for the first wicket and put the chase firmly on track.

Lee was the star of the innings, scoring a fluent 67 off 44 balls. She found gaps regularly and kept the pressure off the middle order, earning the Player of the Match award.

Despite the solid start, UP Warriorz fought back with quick wickets, turning the match into a nail-biter. Delhi needed one run off the final ball with nerves high in the dugout.

Laura Wolvaardt held her calm and sealed the win with a boundary through the covers, taking Delhi to 158 for 3 in exactly 20 overs.

The win gives Delhi Capitals Women their first points of the season and lifts them to fourth on the table. UP Warriorz remain winless and stay at the bottom after another close loss.
