Mohit Sharma Announces Retirement Just Days Before IPL 2026 Auction

Mohit Sharma has announced his retirement from all formats of cricket at the age of 37. His decision comes just days before the IPL 2026 auction, bringing an end to a long and steady career across domestic cricket, international cricket, and the IPL.

The Haryana pacer shared an emotional note saying, “Today with a full heart, I announce my retirement from all formats of cricket. From representing Haryana to wearing the India jersey and playing in the IPL, this journey has been nothing short of a blessing.”

Mohit began his career with Haryana, where consistent performances opened the door to an IPL debut with Chennai Super Kings in 2013. He quickly became known for his clever variations, especially the back of the hand slower ball.

He played 26 ODIs for India, taking 31 wickets, and also featured in 6 T20Is where he picked up 6 wickets. His biggest moment came when he earned a place in India’s 2015 ODI World Cup squad. His tidy spells in the middle overs made him a dependable option for captain MS Dhoni during that period.

In the IPL, Mohit wore the jerseys of CSK, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Gujarat Titans. He finished with 134 wickets in 120 matches. His return with Gujarat Titans in 2023 gave his career a late boost as he became one of the most trusted bowlers at the death overs.

Delhi Capitals had signed him for the 2025 season but released him ahead of the 2026 mini-auction. Soon after, Mohit decided it was the right time to step away. The franchise thanked him on social media and said he redefined death bowling with his slower balls.
