The young opener, who was on course for a double century, fell for 175 after a brilliant innings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

It happened when Jaiswal pushed the ball and called for a quick single. Gill took a few steps forward but then backed out, leaving Jaiswal stranded halfway down the pitch. The southpaw had no chance to return as the West Indies fielders hit the stumps cleanly.

Frustrated, Jaiswal exchanged words with his captain before walking off, and the umpire had to signal him to leave the field. The moment sparked plenty of chatter online, but the youngster later downplayed the incident.

“Part and parcel of the game,” says Jaiswal

Speaking to Star Sports after stumps, Jaiswal brushed aside the on-field heat, saying such moments happen in cricket. “It is part and parcel of the game. So it is fine,” he said calmly.

He also spoke about his mindset during the innings and his hunger to bat long. “I want to play as long as I can. I was thinking that if I bat for one hour, it will be easy for me to score runs. I go in with a thought of achieving something for the team. I stay in the present,” he added.

Despite the brief flash of emotions, both Jaiswal and Gill had plenty to celebrate. India declared their innings at 518 for 5, with both openers scoring centuries.

By stumps, the West Indies were struggling at 140 for 4, still trailing by 378 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed one.
