BCCI to Discuss ODI Captaincy With Rohit Sharma Ahead of Australia Tour
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return for Australia ODIs, with BCCI to also review Rohit’s captaincy future.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to return for India in the ODI series against Australia, their first international appearance since the Champions Trophy. The squad will be announced on Saturday, during the first Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad.
Both players had shocked fans earlier this year by retiring from Tests, leaving a leadership gap in the red-ball side. Now, their return in ODIs adds much-needed stability and experience ahead of the Australia tour. The ODI series begins on October 19, followed by matches on October 23 and 25.
Kohli was in sparkling touch during the Champions Trophy, smashing a century against Pakistan and scoring heavily in the semi-final. Rohit, after a lean run, delivered in the final with a match-winning knock against New Zealand, guiding India to another ICC title under his captaincy.
Rohit’s Captaincy Future in Focus
According to reports, the BCCI will discuss Rohit’s role as ODI captain in the selection meeting. With the 2027 World Cup in mind, the board is weighing leadership options, though Rohit is expected to continue for now.
Rohit recently cleared a fitness test at the NCA after a seven-month break, while Kohli too passed his test in London. A teaser released by the broadcasters for the ODI series featured both stars, a strong hint at their comeback.
