Mohsin Naqvi Apologises, But India Still Won’t Get Trophy Easily
Mohsin Naqvi apologises to BCCI over Asia Cup post-final chaos, but trophy handover dispute continues.
The Asia Cup trophy saga has taken another twist. ACC Chief and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi apologised to BCCI for the chaotic scenes after the final on September 28. However, the standoff over the silverware is far from over.
Naqvi softened his tone at the ACC meeting on September 30 but added a condition. He said India’s captain must come to the ACC office in Dubai to collect the trophy and medals. BCCI rejected this, insisting the handover must follow official ACC protocols, not ad-hoc conditions.
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla criticised Naqvi for taking the trophy and medals without a proper ceremony. He emphasised that the trophy belongs to the council, not any individual. Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia explained India’s position clearly:
“We have decided not to accept the Asia Cup 2025 trophy from the ACC chairman, who happens to be one of the senior leaders of Pakistan. That was a conscious decision.”
He added that the ACC Chief does not have the right to take the trophy and medals, calling it “extremely unfortunate and unsportsmanlike.”
With tensions already high between the two boards, the apology alone is not enough. Until the trophy and medals are officially handed over according to ACC rules, the saga is likely to continue.
