RCB Star Phil Salt Creates History, Hits Fastest T20I Hundred
Phil Salt blasted a 39-ball century, the fastest by an England batter in T20Is, as England crushed South Africa’s bowling.
Phil Salt lit up Manchester on Friday with a breathtaking century from just 39 balls in the second T20I against South Africa. The England opener tore apart the Proteas’ bowling attack, registering the fastest ever hundred by an England batter in T20 internationals.
Salt, who reached his century in the 12th over, showed no mercy as he hammered 13 fours and 5 sixes. At the time of writing, he remained unbeaten on 102 off 41 deliveries, striking at nearly 250. His innings left the South African bowlers clueless and the crowd stunned.
Jos Buttler, at the other end, was equally brutal. The England captain smashed 83 off just 30 balls with 8 fours and 7 sixes before falling to Bjorn Fortuin. Together, Salt and Buttler added 126 runs in under eight overs for the opening wicket, setting the perfect tone for England’s innings.
By the 13th over, England had already raced to 216 for 1, scoring at over 16 runs an over. Jacob Bethell, who joined Salt after Buttler’s dismissal, was also going strong with 24 off 10 balls.
For South Africa, nothing seemed to work. Rabada went for 50 in his three overs, Lizaad Williams leaked 46 in two, and Marco Jansen was smashed for 30 in just two. Even skipper Aiden Markram tried his hand, but Salt dispatched him for 19 runs in a single over.
