A report by Hindustan Times on Sunday, September 7, stated that both players could be picked for the India A side. Kohli and Rohit have not played any competitive cricket since the end of IPL 2025.

Both announced their retirements from Test cricket in May this year. Kohli may return to India this month and is expected to undergo fitness assessments in Bengaluru.

The two players last represented India on March 9, 2025, in the ICC Champions Trophy final against New Zealand in Dubai. Rohit scored 76 runs from 83 balls and was named Player of the Match.

Earlier in the tournament, Kohli scored 84 runs against Australia in the semifinal on March 4. He also remained unbeaten on 100 runs against Pakistan on February 23. Both innings won him Player of the Match awards.

Their participation in the India A games could serve as preparation for the three-match ODI series against Australia later this year.
