“Kept Hurling Abuses at Me” – When MS Dhoni Lost His Cool
Former India pacer Mohit Sharma reveals a rare moment when MS Dhoni lost his cool during a Champions League T20 match, continuing to hurl abuses even after Mohit took a wicket.
MS Dhoni may be celebrated as “Captain Cool,” but even the calmest leaders have their breaking point. Former India pacer Mohit Sharma recently recalled one such rare moment when Dhoni completely lost his temper and didn’t stop, even after Mohit had struck gold on the field.
Speaking to CricTracker, Mohit narrated a hilarious yet unforgettable incident from a Champions League T20 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhoni had called Ishwar Pandey to bowl, but Mohit mistakenly thought it was his turn and charged in to deliver.
“Mahi bhai had actually called Ishwar, but I thought he called me. I started my run-up, and by then, the umpire said I had to continue. Mahi bhai lost his cool and abused me. On the very first ball, I dismissed Yusuf Pathan, but even during the celebration, he kept hurling abuses at me (laughs),” Mohit revealed.
Despite the on-field flare-up, Mohit insists his time with Dhoni was full of lessons, both cricketing and personal.
“He’s someone who loves to teach. Every time you sit with him, you learn something in life, not just about cricket. He always talks about keeping things simple and focusing on controllables.”
Mohit and Dhoni shared several years together at CSK, including the 2015 World Cup with Team India. Their journey came full circle in IPL 2023, when Mohit, playing for Gujarat Titans, bowled the final over against his former side in the title clash. With 10 needed off 2, Ravindra Jadeja’s six and four denied Mohit and GT glory, handing Dhoni another famous CSK triumph.
Yet for Mohit, memories with Dhoni remain priceless.
“In the huddle, he always emphasized common sense, something that isn’t so common nowadays. Whether it was tackling a bumpy field or adjusting for the wind, he kept cricket very practical,” Mohit said.
