“Why is she angry?” – Lalit Modi hits back at Sreesanth’s wife after releasing slap-gate controversy video
Lalit Modi responds to S Sreesanth’s wife after she slammed him and Michael Clarke for releasing the 2008 IPL slap-gate video involving Harbhajan Singh.
The IPL 2008 slap-gate controversy has returned to headlines after former commissioner Lalit Modi released an unseen clip of Harbhajan Singh slapping S Sreesanth.
The video, revealed during a discussion with ex-Australian cricketer Michael Clarke, drew sharp criticism from Sreesanth’s wife, Bhuvneshwari.
She lashed out at Modi and Clarke, calling the move “cheap publicity” and “absolutely disgusting” for resurfacing a painful incident from 18 years ago.
“Both Sree and Harbhajan have moved on in life and are fathers now with school-going children. Yet you try to throw them back into an old wound,” she wrote.
Responding to her remarks, Modi defended himself.
“I don’t know why she is getting angry. I was asked a question and I spoke the truth. Sree was a victim, and that is why I said that. No one asked me this before, so when Clarke wanted to know, I responded,” Modi told IANS.
Bhuvneshwari highlighted the emotional toll on their family, saying the resurfaced video forces their children to relive trauma that was long buried.
She urged Modi and Clarke to “fear God” and consider the consequences of chasing views at the cost of players’ families.
The original 2008 incident had led to Harbhajan Singh being suspended for 11 matches, while Sreesanth was left in tears on the field.
