Jos Buttler Pays Emotional Tribute to Late Father

England white-ball captain Jos Buttler took the field for Manchester Originals in The Hundred just a week after the death of his father, posting an emotional tribute alongside a picture of them holding the 2019 Cricket World Cup trophy: “Rest in peace Dad, thank you for everything.”

The Originals wore black armbands in his father’s honour during their clash with Oval Invincibles. Buttler, visibly emotional, was dismissed for a four-ball duck as his side managed 129, with Phil Salt top-scoring with 41 off 32 balls.

Invincibles openers Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye both struck half-centuries, adding 114 runs in a blistering stand to chase down the target in just 57 balls.

This followed Buttler’s 22 off 18 balls in the Originals’ opening defeat to Southern Brave. The matches have marked a challenging period for the skipper, playing without one of the most influential figures in his cricketing journey.
