BCCI Likely to Take Key Call on Bumrah’s Role After England Tests, Says Report
Concerns around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and workload continue to shape his role in India’s Test team. The fast bowler played only three out of the five match test series against England, as part of a careful strategy by the BCCI and team management to protect his long-term availability.
The decision to rest Bumrah for two Tests was made jointly by chief selector Ajit Agarkar and head coach Gautam Gambhir, with full backing from the BCCI medical team. Their main focus is keeping him fit for big-ticket events, especially the T20 World Cup 2026, which will be held in India.
While Bumrah is keen to play across all formats, the medical staff has advised caution due to his past injuries. Every effort is being made to manage his physical load and avoid breakdowns.
India’s recent success without him has also supported this approach. The team won two of the five Tests he didn’t play, with Mohammed Siraj stepping up impressively to take 23 wickets in the series. Young pacers Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna also delivered, picking up 13 and 14 wickets respectively in just three matches each.
“The medical team is actively involved, and when it comes to a match-winner like Bumrah, every possible measure is being taken to keep him fit,” a BCCI source said
By rotating Bumrah and developing a wider pace pool, India is building both depth and flexibility. The goal is to keep Bumrah fresh for ICC tournaments and high-stakes series, rather than risking him in every game.
