ENG vs IND: “Siraj Reminded Me of Kapil Dev” – Yograj Singh Praises Pacer’s Spell After Fiery Oval Performance
Yograj Singh praises Mohammed Siraj’s fiery bowling and Shubman Gill’s mature captaincy in India’s 2-2 series draw in England.
Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has praised fast bowler Mohammed Siraj and young captain Shubman Gill for their standout performances in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series in England.
Siraj was the star with the ball, finishing as the top wicket-taker across five Tests. He picked up 23 wickets at an average of 32.43 and a strike rate of 48.39. He also bowled more overs than any other bowler in the series.
His five-wicket haul on the final day at The Oval helped India snatch a thrilling six-run win, levelling the series 2-2. That final spell earned him praise from all quarters, including Yograj, who compared Siraj’s intensity to Indian legend Kapil Dev.
“The way Mohammed Siraj bowled, he reminded me of Kapil Dev,” Yograj said while speaking to MSN. “The way our players have played, it was amazing to watch.”
Yograj also lauded Shubman Gill’s calm and composed leadership. Gill was leading the Test team for the first time in this series, but showed maturity beyond his years.
“The captaincy of Shubman Gill was mature. It did not seem at all that he was a captain for the first time,” he added.
India lost the series opener at Headingley but bounced back with a historic win at Edgbaston their first-ever Test victory at the venue. England took the lead again by winning the third Test at Lord’s. India batted out five sessions to draw the fourth Test at Old Trafford, before sealing a memorable win at The Oval.
Gill led from the front with the bat, scoring 754 runs in 10 innings at an average of 75.40. He hit four centuries, including a double ton, and shared the Player of the Series award with England’s Harry Brook, who made 481 runs at 53.44.
