Siraj took five wickets in the final innings, including the last one, a pinpoint yorker to bowl Gus Atkinson with England just seven runs away from the target. It was India’s narrowest Test win by runs and a finish that will be remembered for years.
Earlier in the match, Siraj had already made an impact with four wickets in the first innings. He dismissed key batters like Joe Root, Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, and Jacob Bethell, setting the tone for the game.
In England’s chase of 374, Siraj got the crucial breakthrough late on Day 3 by removing Zak Crawley. With pressure building on the final day, he struck again early, removing the stand-in England captain.
When Jamie Overton tried to hit his way out of trouble with two quick boundaries, Siraj responded by dismissing both Overton and Jamie Smith, tightening India’s grip on the match.
But the drama wasn’t over yet. Atkinson hit a six to bring the target into single digits, and injured Chris Woakes walked out with one hand in a sling to help him out. Siraj, calm under pressure, fired in a deadly yorker to end England’s hopes and finish with figures of 5 for 84 in the second innings.
He ended the match with nine wickets and finished the series as the leading wicket-taker, with 23 scalps. Siraj’s fiery spells were crucial to India’s comeback in the final Test and their 2-2 draw in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
