IND vs ENG 2025: Stalemate at The Oval as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy Ends in a Tie
India win fifth Test by six runs at The Oval, level series 2-2 as Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy ends in a thrilling draw.
India pulled off a stunning six-run win in the fifth Test at The Oval, leveling the five-match series 2-2 and sharing the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy with England.
It was India’s narrowest-ever Test victory by runs, and it came after a dramatic collapse on the final day.
England began Day 5 at 339 for 6, needing just 35 more runs to win with Joe Root and Harry Brook having already scored brilliant centuries.
With four wickets in hand, the hosts looked set to seal the series. But India had other plans.
Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna led a fiery fightback with the ball. Siraj picked up Jamie Smith, Jamie Overton, and then bowled Gus Atkinson to end the match, finishing with a five-wicket haul.
Atkinson had raised English hopes by smashing a six, bringing the target down to just 7. Injured Chris Woakes even came out to bat with his left arm in a sling, running for Atkinson.
But Siraj’s final delivery cleaned up Atkinson, sparking wild celebrations from the Indian camp.
Earlier, India had posted 224 in the first innings, with Gus Atkinson taking five wickets for England. England replied with 247, led by Zak Crawley and Harry Brook.
In their second innings, India bounced back strongly. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 118, Akash Deep made 66, and Washington Sundar chipped in with 53 as India posted 396, setting England a target of 374.
England were cruising at 301 for 3 at one point, but collapsed to 367 all out.
With this win, the series ended 2-2, and both teams shared the newly renamed Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. It was a fitting end to a tightly fought series between two top Test sides.
