Despite the injury, Pant had bravely come out to bat in the first innings and scored a fighting half-century. He was clearly in pain, but his 50 gave India a much-needed push when the team was under pressure.

On Sunday morning, he showed up again, this time on crutches. One of India’s coaching staff confirmed that Pant will bat again if the situation demands it.

At the time of writing, India are 266 for 4, still 45 runs behind England. Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja are at the crease. But if more wickets fall, all eyes will be on whether Pant walks in again, this time, literally limping out to help his team.

His courage has already earned praise, and fans are hoping he can play one more important knock, even if he’s not at full fitness.
