Speaking after Day 3 of the ongoing fourth Test in Manchester, Kaif pointed out noticeable drops in Bumrah’s bowling speed and physical discomfort on the field. He believes Bumrah may take a step back from red-ball cricket if he feels unable to give his best.

“His Body Has Totally Given Up”

“Jasprit Bumrah, I don’t think you will see him playing in the upcoming Test matches. He might even take retirement. He is struggling with his body. His body has totally given up,” Kaif said in a video shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Bumrah’s pace was clearly down during the Manchester Test. He bowled around 130–135 kph, occasionally dipping as low as 125 kph, far from his usual speeds in excess of 140.

Kaif noted that Bumrah’s passion remains, but his body seems to be failing him.

“His passion is the same. But he has lost to his body. He has lost to his fitness. His body is not supporting him.”

Bumrah Hobbles Off After One Over with Second New Ball

On Day 3, Bumrah bowled just one over with the second new ball before hobbling off the field. His lack of penetration and speed was noticeable throughout the innings.

Kaif said the fast bowler’s selfless nature might lead him to step away voluntarily if he feels he can no longer contribute effectively.

“If he feels that he is not able to give 100% for the country, that he is not able to win the match, that he is not getting the wickets, then he himself will refuse.”

Bumrah is also on the brink of conceding 100+ runs in an innings for the first time in his Test career if England continue to bat deep.

Kaif warned Indian fans to brace for a future where Bumrah may not be part of the Test team.

“Without Bumrah, get used to it, Indian fans. I feel that you will have to get used to watching Test matches without him as well.”

As India trail England by 311 runs heading into Day 4, the focus will remain on Bumrah’s fitness not just for this series, but for what lies ahead in his Test career.
